I read that thread last night. I suppose it's true. With all of the Airwolf activity lately, Hollywood surely got a whiff of the $$$ potential.

I hope it's not a scam like that "supersonic helicopter designer" that was hanging around there a few years ago. Tongue

Story-wise, they can have the characters, just change the circumstances without drastically altering the original "feel" of the character's motivations/intentions.

And if they do make a movie, I'd almost guarantee they don't go with a 222 airframe. Whoever is in charge will want to leave their distinct mark on the film's style/design. I just hope the mark they leave isn't like the mark a dog would leave on a fire hydrant. Huh

Hey,

I'm thinking if they make a new Airwolf movie that they will use the New Bell 430 Fuselage it looks almost like the Bell 222.

Personally, I wouldn't mind the 430, given that they want a modern chopper. It's only logical to go with the more modern version of the 222.

Like someone already said though; if they give the new Lady Batmobile animated armor................ Angry

Of course in these politically correct times, "The Lady" would probably be referred to as "The Non-Gender-Specific Aero-Vehicle". Cheesy

Dennis, That's great commentary. You are hilarious! They need to use you for the one liners. I agree with you totally. Great picture, Travis. That would be a great Airwolf for the movie with a few modifications.
I sure hope they don't use computer animation. You can't replace the real thing, but if they do, they need to do it like the movie "Dark Blue World" , where it looks realistic.

Oh, the one liners! That has to be an aspect of the Airwolf movies! I loved the subtle character humor, especially from String because he always comes off as uptight to the other characters. You're not really expecting it when it happens.

My favorite String-ism is in the pilot movie after he's gone to the trouble of getting Gabrielle to laugh about the fish, he zings her with the "Cute, cuddly, wooly, little lambs." line. Classic.

And when Archangel learns that they had the nurse with them at Airwolf's hiding place in Echoes from the Past(?):
Nurse: Airwolf? Is that what you call his helicopter?
Archangel: She knows the name!?!?
Dom: We thought we'd keep that from her.

Like at that point knowing the name would matter compared to knowing it's location and what it could do! HA--good stuff. Grin

Aaaaaand I'm guessing that we've seen the last of Dale the Screenwriter over on .org

Why must everything turn into a screaming match over there? Man, I miss the good old days there.

I'd just like to thank Clark for all of his efforts in all things Airwolf! I haven't once experienced anything unpleasant here. In fact, quite the opposite. I enjoy stopping in here even if there haven't been any new posts since the last time I checked in.

Yeah Clark!

Thanks Dennis, and my pleasure.

Two things about the movie Airwolf:
1.  As great as they were, the modifications that made Airwolf what it is were additions that mimicked the weight and balance of normal operation.  Most likely the permits to modify the 430 or any other aircraft would not include the ability to modify the fuselage structure itself, so we'd have to live with that ugly rotor cowling.
2.  If the studio sticks with the original 222, the original merchandise licensees would be able to re-sell their old toys as new.  A new aircraft would force interested manufacturers to sign new contacts for up-to-date toys, and that can be a strong motivation.

One thing going for the 222, no other aircraft better fits the shark-like look that made Airwolf so gorgeous!

Hey Clark,

You are absolutely right about the bell 222, I would love to see airwolf merchandise back, I use to have the small die cast set when I was younger, and of course the Model that i had to put together and I had it hanging from the ceiling of my room!  I can't wait to see what unfolds in the near future for the airwolf movie, Like you said Clark there is no other beautiful helicopter than "The Lady". Have a good one!

I agree with Clark 100%... The 430 looks nothing like Airwolf...The intakes and cowlings are completely wrong and as Clark stated the 430 doesnt have the shark look to it and after seeing and working some with Steven and Clark on the mock-up a 430 would not do Airwolf justice. I say stick with the Triple Duece and keep it as close to the original as possible.

I feel that anew airwolf movie is an amazing idear. I think that the new airwolf helicopter has to be a Bell 430. All other aircraft i have looked at dont really fit the part that airwolf has greatly played in the past series. If a new airwolf movie is made i would definately be the first in line to see it. When i first sore that somebody was actually writing a script, this certainly got my heart pumping with hapiness.

I would like to know if more has actually been done about the movie being made. Has the process actually gone any further thatn a script?

If anybody could get back to me a would be ver greatfull.

I think a new Airwolf should be ALL NEW, as a modern Airwolf would be...and with today's CG tech it wouldnt need to be based on a real helicopter either...the challenge would be to capture's that thing about the 222 based Airwolf that gets our hearts beating faster, and put it into a new vessle...

I picture something that would resemble the original Airwolf, the LHX concepts, with elements of the F22 Raptor...

The original Bell 222 is a work of art, made menacing and yet more 'balanced' by the Airwolf mods. I'd like any design used in a future film or show to adhere to the original 'wolf in sheeps clothing' ideal. Some over-refined hyper-modern attack craft with concessions to realism would not interest me. Take a look at the critisms surrounding the upcoming Transformers movie - a good example of how to irritate the fanbase by 'teching-up' the robot modes to the point where you're not too sure what you're looking at.

Also, no tail rotor? That'd mean no opportunity for Hawke Mk.II to beat out any missile strike damage over the BBQ.  Wink

Greetings,

I have to agree that the Bell 222 is a piece of art.  The 222 is my favorite heli.  The fact that it was used for Airwolf makes it even better.

Time in the Airwolf world has moved on. Hawk and Dom died, Archangle was moved and most likly by this time would have retired from the Firm.  The Firm would have either gotten Airwolf back by this point or it would have been damaged or distroyed by the newer and stronger weapons that have been developed. The Firm would have been working on a new and better machine, this time taking steps to make sure there was not another Moffet.

If the Bell 430 was used it would be a logical progression.  Cars that are the same type change bit by bit over the years but you can still see the original in the newest version.  The same, I think, would be true for the Firm redisigning and updating Airwolf.  I would be sad to not see the Bell 222 version of Airwolf on the Silverscreen but if care was done to modify the Bell 430 into an updated Airwolf I would be happy.  What I think would be a mistake would be to use any other heli than a Bell.  This is not to put down the other helicopter companies out there but it just would not be right.

If I had the skill with Photoshop I would take a Bell 430 and the Airwolf mods. and bring them together to get a preview of what Airwolf might look like using this fuslage.  If there was a 1/48 scale model of the 430 I would use it and the 1/48 model of Airwolf to do the same job.

Following this link, drifting off topic, and noting reference to the ACAP chopper which used a 222 transmission, the same site's page on the 222 itself has a photo which looks rather like one of the prototype 222s:

It has the ridged 206-style air intakes, and a slightly different profile to the windscreen and nose.

Yes, that is a pic of the prototype 222...I sure do like those intakes!! I still think that using a 430 would be like using a '74 Charger as the General Lee...

I don't see what all the debate is over. If they actually make a movie about Airwolf they will most likely use cgi for flying shots and maybe a mock up of the cockpit for close ups. Think of it as a really high budget season 4. LOL If they actually make a helicopter for the movie and they use something half as weird looking as the car they intend to use for the purposed Knight Rider movie no Airwolf fan is going to go see it anyway.

Not knowing the status of the perported "Airwolf Movie", I would just like to weigh in on the subject.

The only way a new version of the Airwolf would work, is if Hollywood was attempting to capture a new, younger audience, for future, televised episodes, and who did not grow up on the original series.

Much like the new "Knight Rider", that recently came out with the Cobra as KITT, I come from the old genere of the Trans Am.  When they later modified KITT into the KITT 2000, with the expanding "Jet perpulsion system", my interest in the show started to waine.  When they used the Firebird (??) in later episodes, I lost all interest, because it was not the original KITT, and what I had become accustomed to and expected the car to be.  It was too overboard.

Like Airwolf, and again, possibly much like many of you, I too come from the time where Hollywood inadvertantly set the precedence of what we expect Airwolf to look like, in the back of our minds.

To me, they could possibly get away with using a modified Bell 430, but I expect with an overall, diminished outcome for those of us who grew up originally with the show, but catering to the newer audiences.

To me, it would be like adding icing to a turd, and then attempting to pass it off as a spice cake, when we are all accustomed to what spice cake actually looks like.

I don't see why they would use a Bell 430 for the movie over a 222, there's not much of a difference appearance wise, for them to justify that.

If they used a prototype Commanche or an Apache then I can see why they would want to do that to give it a whole different look. Or they might use this helicopter by the time the movie goes into production:   Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

I can see what Hollywood did with Knight Rider or Godzilla or Planet of the Apes.

Hey guys, this is my 1st ever post on the forum (why didn't I find it sooner???)
As I type this, my 6 year old daughter is watching a dvd. Can you guess what she's watching? Yep, AIRWOLF (series 1- the pilot movie).  Cry I'm SOOO proud! She LOVES it, & would happily watch Airwolf 24/7.

Now considering that she's of the new generation that any new Airwolf movie would be aimed at, & even she can recognise the REAL Lady, I don't think it would be a wise choice for the makers to move too far away from the 222 shape.
The 430 may just make the grade, but for me the Lady will ALWAYS be a Bell 222!  Cool

It has to be a 222 made to look just like the original.

They could make it a sort of continuing story and even have Jan-Michael Vincent and Ernest Borgnine in a cameo. Jan-Michael could do with the work.

If there is a new movie, they have to give the fans what they want and thats the original AIRWOLF Bell-222.

personnally i would love to see them stick with the 222 with upgraded wepons and onboard computers but leave the lady looking as good as she did back then
the 430 is close but its no lady in my eyes
that honor falls sololy on the 222
i read at the bell website they are discontinueing the 222 soon
my question to them then is if the movie is a go and they use the 222 will bell reinstate the 222 or still drop it for good
i hope they dont drop it
i was sad to see the f14 go by the way side that was a great plane
but time moves forward for a reson i guess
we all will just have to wait an see what happins
i hope the moive guys look at fair owls screenplay an use it at least legacy that one would fit for a new crew to take flight in the lady
well thats my 2 cents
later all
ps this might sound crazy but everytime i hear or see a chopper i think of the lady and can almost see her in every heli that flies over ocala

Something to consider guys, is that in third season there was a"Super Airwolf" made by The Firm the only reason that it didn't smoke the original is because String can fly circles around most other aircraft even in a a sykorsky sky crane.  The look of the helicopter should be similar to the 222 but the 430 could pull the same position as a modern version, the stipulation from the writer is that it HAS to be a MODERN aircraft, that leaves the 222 out in the cold which is truly unfortunate, but not critical, and while I love the old triple duece as much as any one, I feel it more important that they do a movie that gets the feel right and the interactions between the characters correct than get hung up on The ladies dressing,  Truly anything could be made to be Airwolf, the idea and the feel of the movie are what are important (not to mention that soul wrenching howl as she goes over head Cool

I think that they should use the Bell 222 for the new movie , set it in real time , have it based around the  airwolf  been missing for all this time or something like that , and also bring original actors to play there roles, i reckon there would have to be alot of airfights and at least two big airfights , with a chopper with the same capabilities as airwolf

Lisa here
I don't see the big picture here ? maybe because people out of work, studios  draw is down  not many people vist the studios.  Ok Airwolf the movie I have heard  there is 2 writers working  on a movie each. Bell 222  as the lady flying  whos got one to rent , last time it was a rental studios didn't own it.
First thing  lets see  movie time maybe in 5 years  you might see AirWolf the movie  most of it in CG. Next  present day  the world  has been flushed in the toilet.  I would love my boss  to say lets start building props for the movie  but I know it wont happen anytime soon untill the Economy recovers. As for those that will as  Studios is being careful and  what movies get made now.
